Note: I used Corel Paint Shop Pro for this tutorial. It will work with any paint shop pro or adobe photoshop version. Go from this  to this  1. Take the image you wish to use for your icon, and crop/resize it so it is 100 x 100 pixels. 2. Sharpen your image once by going Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen. 3. Duplicate your layer once by choosing Layers > Duplicate. 4. Set the duplicated layer to Screen 100%. 5. Now we are going to desaturate it. Go Adjust > Hue/Saturation > Colorize. Set your Hue at 0 and your Saturation at 0. Click OK. 6. Make a new layer below the desaturated one. Use your flood fill tool to fill it with a dark grey color. I used #808080. Set this layer to Burn 100%. 7. Finally, duplicate your original image and drag to the very top of the layers list. Set to Overlay at 100%. 9. Merge all layers together by choosing Layers > Merge > Merge Visible. |
